I love those Octogon horns and as they say very stiff.
How do they compare to round horns ? Any trade offs ?
As I see it, The progression from flat sided Traxic (sp.) horns ( i e one of the early 4-sided Edgar mids ) to Octogon ....to round conical horn could only better the sound ............... Right ? GM?
Very interesting Link!

When I had keen hearing I could hear a very slight difference between radial (rectangular) Vs square Vs round, though not enough for me to give up the radial's pluses which are more audible in a system than when comparing just horn shapes.
WRT multiple sided round Vs pure round, I guess there might be someone out of ~6.7 billion folks that can hear the slight phase anomalies, but far, far more audible to even to those of us that are hearing impaired due to age/whatever reason is a proper transition from the driver to horn throat and mouth termination and until you have these optimized, doing listening tests of minor different shapes would be a waste of time/effort IMO.

At the library I came across a fascinating book on the Fillmore East. The author was the Fillmore?s unofficial photographer during its last three years, and she documented everything. It?s one of those books that you can?t put down until the end.

A lot of the crew that Bill Graham hired to run the Fillmore were students and faculty from the theater arts department at NYU, which was right frickin next door? and the Fillmore crew were a significant part of the whole Woodstock setup
The book has some Altec ?porn? shots, but what really caught my attention were the photos, and the accompanying details, of the rear-projection light shows that "played" at all the Fillmore concerts. No less than five people were creating all sorts of effects by hand during each show. The light show was also set to play the entire Woodstock gig, but they only got in a couple of hours on the first night, before some heavy winds destroyed their screen.
Unfortunately the Fillmore East closed in 1971 because the artists were becoming intoxicated by the money pouring in from large stadium venues. Bill Graham said that the last straw occurred in 1971 when the Band told him that the $ 50k he offered was way too low for a week-long gig.
It looks like the Fillmore was pretty cool while it lasted though. Wish I?d been there!
